A New Food Journey

My husband and I decided about a month ago that we would try out a plant based diet.  This decision came about because of several factors.  We wanted to improve our health for sure.  We would love to be on no medications at all.  We loved the idea of doing something that would give us more energy.  About the time we were thinking about what kind of change we would make, our daughter asked us to watch the documentary "Forks Over Knives".  Our daughter and her family have been using a plant based diet for around two years.  Although they never tried to talk us into trying it before, we could see the incredible change it had made in their lives.  Our son also practices a plant based diet as much as he is able.

As we were watching the documentary, my husband said that we should try it.  I was so surprised by this that I said, "Try what?"  I couldn't believe that he was suggesting that we should try a plant based diet.

We had agreed we would try it for a month as an experiment.  We are into week four of this new way of eating.  Although we are early into this, I can't imagine that we would return to our old way of eating.   For the most part, we were not huge meat eaters.  We tended to have small servings of meat at most meals, but certainly not all meals.  We both have always loved vegetables more than any other food group.  We have grown a small garden during many years of our marriage.

I want to use this blog as a journal during our changes.  I have no idea how this will turn out.  I will share changes it has made in our lives, our struggles, our victories, some recipes and cooking techniques, thoughts on such things as eating out and how we can handle this change socially.
